What backpacking backback should i get?
I am just getting into backpacking. I love to hike, i’ve just never camped out in the wilderness. I am about 6 feet tall and have a pretty big waist. I have researched a few backpacking packs, and was thinking about getting a golite expedition pack. i want a really big pack that i can yous for a multiple night hike/camp. I was looking at the go-lite expedition pack because of its size and reviews. Does anyone have any recomendations on what i should look for because i am kinda lost.
Couple of things, if you have a quality Outdoor Store in your area, they will have a rental department, I’d check it out and do a day hike or two with the backpack you’ve picked out (fully loaded) and see how that goes.
Another great idea is to pick up a book on backpacking or outdoor skills, a good start is the Boy Scout Handbook (always nice to have in home for emergencies anyways).
I still use an external frame pack because it works best for me (also about twenty years old and still working perfectly), so don’t ignore the old school.
