making hiking sticks
do you have to carry a stick when you go hiking?

should hiking be for such a long distances?
when you go out of your house to walk is that called hiking?
what is the place designated for hiking called? like if u want to make a place special for hiking what is it called?

no, just something to help you by letting you arms help you instead of only letting your legs work.
no, hiking means adventure, mountaineering, etc. even doing these for short distances is considered hiking.
it can be, depends on if your going into a wood land, a “wild area”, mountains, valleys, etc. away from the city.
usually state or national trails like the Appalachian trail are considered hiking trails.
same as above, but you need to go through a lot of paperwork and time to get your trail noticed by the government and tourists and there has to be something unique about it to attract new people.

Hiking With Grizzlies

Hiking With Grizzlies

$10.48

Every hiker and camper who reads this book will be better prepared to hike in grizzly country and to actually encounter a grizzly bear. That?s because bear advocate Tim Rubbert shares the trail-tested techniques he has learned from hiking with grizzlies from Yellowstone to Alaska. Rubbert tells how to avoid bear encounters and how to react if you do encounter a bear. Important lessons cover making noise, remaining calm, staying together, retreating, and encountering surprised bears, habituated bears, bears with cubs, and bears on carcasses. The lessons are vividly illustrated with photographs of Rubbert?s bear encounters, and each encounter is critically analyzed to determine what happened and why. Readers will gain life-saving knowledge about how to use bear spray, including what happens when spray is used in real-world situations as Rubbert describes two backcountry encounters when he was forced to spray bears. These clearly explained hiking strategies, based on extensive personal experience, will help anyone travel in bear country with far greater safety and confidence.

Hiking Alone

Hiking Alone

$15.98

In this collection of personal essays, Mary Beath often does follow trails in solitude–both literally and metaphorically. With the focus of a scientist, the attention to detail of an artist, and the lyrical language of a poet, she recasts a classic American tale: travel from the East westward and remake your life. Beath lived for ten years in New York City’s East Village in the 1980s before she moved to New Mexico. Whether on a solo hike in the San Juan Mountains weighing risk and choice in unexpected encounters, diving in the Sea of Cortez hoping to make peace with traditional biology, or lobbying for wilderness on Capitol Hill, she never fails to engage the reader on multiple levels, within a natural world that includes humans. This book will resonate with anyone who values self-reliance and celebrates the West’s rich and complex landscapes."Whether navigating the fields of Zuni, the halls of Congress, or simply her own ruminations, Beath takes the reader on a journey through the wonders of the West."–U.S. Representative Tom Udall, NM"I loved trekking with Mary Beath, her sweet song and vision leading the way through both dark and sun-drenched vales of soul-making. Hiking Alone is a generous and reflective book, lovely in language, sharp in observation."–Garrett Hongo, author of Volcano: A Memoir of Hawai’i
