Good outfitter for hiking trip in Alaska?
I would like to plan a hiking/trekking trip up in Alaska this summer. Looking for recommendations on location and outfitters/guide companies that would be worth researching. Ideally I’m looking for quality and good value, but I don’t want it to cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for helping point me in the right direction.
Unfortunately good hiking gear isnt cheap. Try Eastern Mountain Sports or REI. There are others, but it is hard to tell you without knowing where you live. If you want to save money, the best thing to do would be buy a good hiking book and do lots of research online and learn what you will need. Then do the shopping online. I have saved thousands that way…but if you aren’t confident that you know what you need, it is better to go to the store and spend a little more than be miserable on your trip with the wrong gear. Also, don’t buy boots online unless you know what size you wear for that brand, or at least be willing to try them on when they arrive and ship them back for another size if they don’t feel perfect.
