hiking grand canyon december
What is the best way to visit the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, NV?

We are looking at either one full day or possibly two, if necessary? It would be for late December so we know reservations at some of the hotels might not be possible. Can’t decide whether we want to hike or just a quick tour.

Your last question should be answered first because all else depends on it.

At this time of year, i would not recommend a long hike around or into the canyon. The possibility of snow is very real. If you go on a hike, please be prepared.

Should you decide to make the quick tour, you can do a Vegas and back easily in one day. You could continue to stay in Vegas because there is not much scenery wise between the two.

Take US 93 south out of Vegas to Kingman, Arizona and then take
I-40 east to Williams, Az. Take Arizona 64 to the Grand Canyon. All of these are good roads! Around the rim there is a road that has look-outs at the most scenic spots.

If you choose to do the there and back in a day, I also recommend that you stop in Seligman. Yes, it is a tourist trap type town but it has interesting history of old route 66. Especially eat at the Snow Cap Cafe.

If you decide to stay over night, there are many good motels and resturants on the east side of Flagstaff (cheap too). Again this is on old route 66.

If you have more questions, please feel free to give me a shout. I wish you a wonderful trip to vegas and visit to the Grand Canyon.
