Are there other rivers that drop underground naturally and reappear miles away like the Santa Fe in Florida?

In northcentral Florida(Gainesville, Alachua County) is the Santa Fe River. It flows underground into a sinkhole (the sinkhole is not visible, the river appears to dead end) and then reappears about 3 miles away. The two areas are parks these days, O’Leno and River Rise, and I was curious if anyone knew if this occurred naturally anywhere else in the world?

I have been there before and it is really quite fascinating, the former river route is visible and you can see lots of interesting things on the hike from sink to rise. If you look on a map program you’ll see the river just disappear for a few miles. Search O’Leno State Park in High Springs I believe.

Thanks.
Oh, thanks, very interesting. Anyone else know of any?

A more famous example is the Lost River in Indiana. Two locations along the river have been named National Natural Landmarks.

For more than 200 years, Gainesville, Georgia, has been the trading and business center for Northeast Georgiaas mountain region. Its character dictated by rugged mountain terrain and independent, self-reliant people, Gainesville entertains a uniquebrhistory quite different from the traditional plantation culture of the American South. Celebrated within these pages are the people and places of this aQueen City of the Mountains.a With images culled primarily from the Hall County Library and the Archives of the State of Georgia, Gainesville: 1900a2000 captures the memories of the twentieth century on the eve of the millennium. From its days as the aGreat Health Resort of the Southa to its transition into a metropolitan community, Gainesville has experienced enormous growth and change. Included in this collection are images of the disastrous 1936 tornado that swept through the city, the mills that were active in the early 1900s, and the poultry industry that became a dominantbreconomic force in Gainesville. Residents will delight in the early photographs of the town square that reflect a simpler way of life.

Gainesville, Florida, has grown from a small agricultural community in the north-central part of the state to a thriving city. Many people have had a hand in Gainesvilleas evolution. After befriending the Timucuan Indians, who had originally inhabited the region, the Spanish began recruiting other settlers to move to the area. Despite those valued contributions, however, the people who brought the railroad to Gainesville deserve the most credit for giving the town its start. Soon after tracks were laid through the city, small businesses sprouted and opportunities for new industries arose. The cityas population expanded along with its economic growth, and more people began to witness the unique potential of Gainesville. In 1905, the city became home to the University of Florida, and a rich educational heritage began. The university brought great attention to the town and subsequently made Gainesville one of the most important cities in the state and one of the most prominent educational epicenters in the South.

Distributed by Westcliffe Publishers for the first time, this introspective and intelligently written book explores the "why" of hiking, rather than the "how", underscoring its profound effect on health and well-being. The authors delve beyond the simple physical benefits of hiking to illuminate its philosophical, psychological, interpersonal, creative, and spiritual elements. Geared more for day-hikers than backpackers, it offers new insights to seasoned trailblazers, encourages novices to begin their own journeys into this exciting and popular pastime, and establishes hiking as a means to regain balance in our lives.
