Any Appalachian Trail thru hikers out there.?
I hiked the AT in 1992 from Georga to Maine & would like to get in touch with some past thru hikers. My trail name was “Skunk Meister.”
Would anyone like to hike the AT?
I hiked a little bit of it when my daughters were eleven and 9 years old. We only did five miles. My mother drove ahead and picked us all up at the next junction. Camping, hiking is great if you have children. Holly river, Hawks Nest, Pipestem, they learn about wildlife, how to respect it. They grew up to be really good hikers, able to start and put out a camp fire. Able to leave an area as they found it. The Appalachian Trail is one of the most beautiful places in the world. From Georga to Maine must have been fantastic.

The New Appalachian Trail (Appalachian Hiker) $12.98 More than a quarter century ago Ed Garvey drew public attention to the wonders and precariousness of the Appalachian Trail with his much publicized thru-hike, so memorably documented in his Appalachian Hiker books. Twenty years later, at the age of seventy-five, he once again began the long trek northward, to rediscover a trail that had changed significantly in the intervening years. The New Appalachian Trail is both the story of his journey and a practical guide to backpacking on the AT. It is also a tribute to the unprecedented cooperative effort of government and volunteers to secure and maintain this extraordinary national treasure. |
